a cartoon for International Women's Day

"We Need Women" cartoon by nakedpastor David Hayward Even though I'm delighted by stories here and there of women here and there experiencing fairness here and there, I'm not pacified by them. These are episodic whereas the problem is perennial, deeply embedded in our cultural DNA and entangled in our social morality, systems and structures. In fact, it is so enmeshed with our lives that we can't even see it. It's like the human body which is about 60% water: when I look at you I don't see water. It's the same with sexism in our culture: it is is a majority issue but invisible to most, which makes it all the more insidious and therefore difficult to challenge.
