Eugene Peterson is Welcomed into Heaven

/strong> Only those familiar with Pastor Eugene Peterson will get this one. But that's okay. Eugene Peterson died yesterday. He was a huge influence in my life. Still is. I was an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in Canada and had the wonderful opportunity to hear him speak many times as well as have one on one conversations with him. He was a wonderful human being. Through his work he was like a pastor to me, and my spiritual director. His books were the biggest shapers of my pastoral ministry. Yes, A Long Obedience in the Same Direction was one of them, which this cartoon is inspired by. But the most influential was Working the Angles, Run with the Horses, and The Contemplative Pastor. I have all of them, and all of them taught me well. I'm sad he left us... one clear voice of sanity in today's crazy Christian context. Fortunately, through his books and other media, his voice remains.
