This was a cartoon that I drew for a commissioned piece. It's just the rough sketch that I sent to them for approval. They rejected it. I like the point it's making.
Last Christmas, my friend Kittredge Cherry requested I do a cartoon... something to do with gay shepherds. I drew one with just one shepherd. She wished there had been two. A gay couple. So I did it this year. Even though some of us may not believe in the historicity of the gospels' birth narratives, I think we can agree that the thrust of the message is clear: ALL MEANS ALL!
The truth is you can take any good message and make it exclusive or inclusive. You can make love exclusive or inclusive. You can twist the gospel into a message reserved for the few. Or you can detect in the gospel a universal truth. It really comes down to the condition of your heart. GET THIS ON A GREETING CARD IN MY SHOP OF MANY THINGS!
