Each of these original handmade woodcut prints are 9"x12" are made with high quality inks on handmade Japanese paper.
This is of the famous German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. It is inspired by one of his photographs. He was executed by the Nazis.
The process: First, I carve the image into wood or tile where I want the paper untouched. The wood or tile that remains raised, I roll ink onto it. Then I press the paper down onto the carved wood or tile and rub the paper until the ink transfers onto it. When I left the paper off, I let it take a long time to dry and cure until it's ready to ship!
It is not matted and framed.
Welcome to the original artwork and fine art reproductions of Canadian artist, David Hayward.
I'm a Canadian artist who works mostly with paper and watercolors. I also love the print-making process, such as woodcuts. I am heavily influenced by the northern Canadian landscape where I live. I'm also influenced by Eastern and Asian art. The evocative and emotive minimalism of my work lends itself to contemplation.
